BEST KETCHIKAN SHORE EXCURSIONS
Ketchikan offers so many great shore excursions that's
its difficult to pick the best. Based on cruise passenger
reviews the following Ketchikan shore excursions top
the list:
MISTY FJORDS FLOAT PLANE EXCURSION
If you can get reservations, I recommend Michelle
Masden of Island Wings Air Service for the Misty
Fjords Float Plane excursion. We flew with Island
Wings last summer and absolutely loved this tour.
Michelle is a very capable pilot and we felt very
comfortable with her.
The two hour flightseeing tour will take you over snow
covered mountains, bright blue alpine lakes and
glaciers. The scenery is unbelievably beautiful and well
worth the $239 price tag. The tour includes 1:15 of
actual flight time and 35 minutes spent on a gorgeous
secluded lake.
This is one tour I do not recommend bringing small
children on. If you do, be aware they will need to be
bucked into their individual seat the entire flight time.
There is a small aisle between the seats so you won't
be able to offer a hug if they get scared. Also my
daughter and I both experienced severe ear pain when
we landed on the lake due to the sharp drop in altitude.
DEADLIEST CATCH TOUR/BERING SEA CRAB
FISHERMEN'S TOUR
If you've ever watched the Discovery Channel's
Deadliest Catch show you'll know what this tour is all
about. This tour gives you an up close view of the real
world of commercial fishermen. The boat has been
outfitted with an heated outdoor amphitheater but I still
recommend dressing warmly for this tour. Even though
passengers on our cruise ship last summer raved
about this tour, they were all frozen when they returned!
This year the Alaska Tour Saver booket includes a 2-
for-1 coupon for this tour for a savings of $168 per
person. If you want to use this coupon, you must book
the tour directly.
GREAT ALASKAN LUMBERJACK SHOW
This is a very popular excursion in Ketchikan. In fact,
many people add this on as a second tour. The show is
located a short walk from the dock and includes more
than a dozen exciting lumberjack events from log rolling
to 50 foot speed climbs up poles. Kids enjoy this show
immensely and it's not expensive at only $34 per
person and $18 for children. You can book directly for
this tour or through the ship's shore excursion desk.
